INTRODUCING MY NEW GUEST AT THE BIRD PARK: RED SHOULDER HAWK

Hi Everybody!!
I have a new bird this year: A Red Shouldered Hawk. These are beautiful and graceful birds. I had one before named Rambo. I included a photo of her in the photos below. Anyway, I had Rambo for 4 years and enjoyed 2 different nestings. The skies have been silent for 2 years after Ram was killed. Now, this Spring brings a new Hawk with songs of 'looking for love' screeching through the sky. I am hopeful for another nest! Also, we check in on the woodpecker's nest and what is happening there. Enjoy!

This is one way the hawk hunts: Perches in tree and looks down at ground! Their eyes are so good, they can see a blade of grass move. They seem to enjoy snakes, from what I have seen down by the creek.

From my Web Albums-
This was my first Hawk, who allowed me to photograph her as she was mating. Still one of my favorite shots!

The following birds are year round residents at Kates Cabin Bird Sanctuary. The red head woodpecker has made a nest in the 3rd hole from top. Just outside her window is a Black Vulture, Lucy on her favorite branch!

Lucy is on the branch to left of center tree and woodpecker nest, next to it.

Closing out with some new cloudscapes

...this is brendasue signing off from Rainbow Creek.  See you next time!
