THE LAST ONE STANDING IN THE BUZZARD SUN TREE!

Hi Everybody!!
Today we are looking at the last red headed buzzard. All the rest have taken off on their spring migration. I suspect this one is Lucy's mate. Lucy is a female Black Vulture who has a nest under this buzzard tree. Old Red (pictured), is a Turkey Buzzard (or Turkey Vulture). These 2 separate species have cross-mated in this herd that overwinters at Kates Cabin. I am looking forward to seeing the baby! Anyway, the buzzard sun tree was a huge oak that died years ago. I found some photos from 4 years back of the sun tree and buzzards in their full glory! Enjoy!

NOW THE BUZZARDS ARE PROTESTING AND DEMANDING EQUAL BLOG TIME ON KATES CABIN PHOTO BLOG!

Hi Everybody!!
Apparently, one of the buzzards saw my Bird Blog and told all the others about the hummingbirds and songbirds being displayed around the world. Now, they showed up today protesting and demanding equal celebrity status with the other Birds. In fact, they believe they are more beautiful than all other birds, including their cousins, the peacocks!  You would think since I retired and moved into the woods away from humans, that my life would be simply 'paradise'.  Not so, as I have learned all species fight and bicker with each other! In an effort to keep peace around the bird park, I have given into the buzzard's demands and devoted this whole Blog to their superior beauty! Enjoy!

THE HANDICAPPED BUZZARD, CASSIDY, HOPS ON AND THRIVES!

Hi Everybody!!
Today we are taking a break from the Hummingbird Migration and looking in on Cassidy Buzz.  Cassidy is a handicapped buzzard who either hatched out with a broken leg or had an accident in early babyhood.  Now, we all know in Nature, injured animals do not usually make it.  However, little Cassidy is learning to function with the daily supervision of her Mom. The photos below are from  August, but happy to report she is still here and has learned to sit in the tree and watch the hummingbirds!  The Hummingbird Migration Review returns tomorrow with the September photos. Enjoy!!

Cassidy is leaning on the wood border of the flowerbed to help shift her weight off the good foot.

She is coming out from under the water fountain to get some food and water.

She hops very well now.

She has clean water everyday on the ground so she can reach it easily.

She rests under the water fountain.

This is my Mom's Memory Garden where this buzzard has found Sanctuary.

I hear alot of commotion and found Cassidy up here in this tree.

She is being attacked in her chest by a mockingbird.

The little monster is attacking her then flying to the other side and repeating.

The Mockingbird is screeching and diving attacks.

Cassidy is doing nothing as he hits here over and over.

He is one mean bird and poor Cassidy does not fight back.

I could no longer watch this assault, so I threw a rock and knocked him out of tree.
He did not come back.
